Thank you gift for exceptional service?

My eye doctor has provided me with spectacular service over the past 20 years. I was blinded in my left eye when I was two (I'm now 29) and have had numerous problems with it over the years. This doctor has come in on his days off to see me at a moments notice and pretty much changed my life by introducing me to a hand-painted contact to cover my disfigured eye. I recently had the eye removed and will soon be getting a prosthetic, which is a very good thing, however, I will no longer need the services of my eye doctor. I'm trying to think of a gift for him and his assistant to thank them for going above and beyond for me. I thought of personally delivering them flowers but I think I'm looking for something more. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I would give him a gift card geared toward his interests or hobbies if you know what they are along with a sincere not or even letter or appreciation for all he has done for you. If you do not know his interests, a restaurant gift card would be nice, also give one to the assistant - they are the one who really keeps the office running.

Sweets and cookies are nice, but so many people will be giving the same thing and some people just get burnt out on them or don't have a sweet tooth to begin with or are trying to watch their weight. Something he can use along with the appreciation is something he will value and remember. Good luck!
Reply:A Professional might be embarrassed by a gift. I suggest instead a heartfelt letter expressing what you just said here.
Reply:I would give them something more permanent. Perhaps an engraved vase - with flowers (maybe silk flowers). Something that people in the waiting room could see.
Reply:Everyone needs to go see the eye doctor. You'll still need to get checkups, won't you? Maybe you'll still see them on occassion.

To answer your question, I think it would be very nice to give them a gift of thanks and appreciation. Do you bake? Cookies or fudge or anything homemade is usually always welcomed and appreciated. Maybe you could get them a coffeetable book for their reception area that deals with their line of work. I think they'd appreciate any gesture of your appreciation. Best wishes.
